Hi Claire

A big welcome to the forum but so sorry to hear that you have RA. This is a great place to be for support and to meet all the friendly folk who frequent this lovely place. We all experience the ups and downs of diagnosis, treatments and living with RA so you are in just the right place for information, support and help with the problems that travel along with it.

I am Lyn, married to Mike with four children in various stages of education. We live in Lancashire. I was diagnosed with sero-negative RA 22 years ago after the birth of my first child. Since then I feel as though I have run the gamut of medications and a number of surgical procedures. I am currently on Enbrel, Prednisolone, Naproxen and a few other bits and pieces to keep things ticking over. Have just been taken off methotrexate (wiped out my neutrophil count) so waiting to see what happens next!! So I know just where you are coming from on the 'complications' front!

What medication are you on at at the moment? Sorry to hear you are having a tough time at present and believe me we all have a good moan about our inability to wear 'nice' shoes ... you are not alone! It's natural to feel that you are not coping when things get you down but in fact you are coping, you have joined NRAS. A really positive step in the right direction as there's always someone about who will listen and respond and even if we don't have all the answers usually someone has experienced something similar.

Looking forward to getting to know you better Claire. Hope things improve very soon,

Lyn x

Hi Claire,

Welcome to the forum!
I am 60 and have had RA for 9 years. Married to Ian and we have one 21year old daughter just taking her final uni exams.

I definitely mourn the fact that I can't wear fashionable shoes, especially with a graduation ceremony coming up!
Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hello Claire and welcome to the forum, you will find lots of support and ideas. I miss wearing lovely shoes but because I can't walk in them I've taken to taking a pair out with me and putting them on when I'm sitting, daft I know but it's just that they finish your outfit. I sometimes just put them on at home and look at them. I'm Glenys, RA over ten years, married to Mick, we have two grown up daughters and three lovely grandchildren.

Hello Claire and a big welcome to the forum.

I`m Kathleen, married to Nick, two grown-up sons & two gorgeous grandsons.

Try not to worry too much about the Lung Function tests - I`ve had these twice in the 4.5 years since I was diagnosed. Are you taking methotrexate?

Keep posting,

Kathleen x

Hi Claire

I only joined this site very recently like Annie B and can confirm tha it is very informative and friendly. It does help you to feel more positive. I also was a high heel fan,but have been relegated to flatties. If I am going to anything where you have to look groomed I take some kitten heels for the grand entry and then slip into flatties as soon as I can. People only notice at the beginning. The rest of the time I wear trainers, which as you know are dead glamorous. Ho hum!

Hi Claire and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you have RA though - I'm 33 and was diagnosed about 20 months ago just after the birth of my son, I also have a nearly 5 year old daughter. I'm on triple combination DMARD therapy (Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine and Hydroxychloroquine) as well as steroids and anti-inflammatories.

It's tough having RA and being a Mum - I think the tiredness is probably the biggest thing for me! Hope your medication gives you some relief soon.

Hi Claire

Welcome to the forum.... ThumpUp

I'm Helly, 35yrs old, married, no children and currently studying for a degree in health & social care at Open University.

I've had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since I was 2, which then went into remission when I was 12 thanks to methotrextate and deflazacort steroids. Unfortunately it became active again last September and I'm now on hydroxychloroquine, etodolac and have quarterly steroid injections.

Look forward to seeing more of your posts

Hi Claire

Sorry to hear things not too good at the moment, it is hard in the early days to get the meds right sometimes. I m still trying to get on with leflunomide together with other bits and bobs and reducing steroids. I think they often do lung function as standard just to check out your lungs, I can t take methotrexate due to bit of a problem with mine.
From my experiences the GP s , consultants don t akways give you the advice we all need, for example I ve had really bad hands and wrists and I had to ask my GP to refer me to an occupational therapist at the hospital for wrist splints I ve only had them about a week and wouldn t be without them now!
Keep in touch with us, we really do understand how you feel.

I am on sulphazaline and entodolac but soon to start mtx which I pray will make me feel much better. I find this forum so helpful - people truly understand and sympathise, and you realise you're not alone.
